Be Comfortable and Chic

Adding just one piece can elevate this comfy outfit

It has been many years since I have zipped up my jeans with a fork.  Nor have I worn two pairs of SPANXs under that tight dress in order to camouflage any lumps and bumps. I have realized that being comfortable in my clothing and in my shoes is a good thing.  But just because I want to be comfortable, does not mean I have to look sloppy.

Have you given up looking chic in favor of just comfort?  Do you prefer to wear yoga pants all the time because they are so comfortable and you can not be bothered to put on real pants?  Are you using being comfortable as an excuse not to care about how you look?

The best example I can give you in regards to chic versus comfortable is how you dress when you go to the airport (at least when we used to go to the airport).  Boy how things have changed!  I remember when you were going to the airport and traveling, you took special care on how you looked.  Even when I was in college and coming home for spring break, I would have never thought about getting on the airplane in my pajama bottoms.  For one thing, I knew my mother would faint dead away if she saw me dressed so poorly.  Think back to the last time that you were in the airport.  What impression did the woman dressed in a nice top, jersey knit pants and a pashmina give you? Compare that to the woman wearing yoga pants, rubber flip flops and an old tee shirt.  If an opening happened in first class and the flight attendant got to choose who was moved up, who would they pick?

And really all you need is one piece to elevate your outfit. Yoga pants, tee shirt and sneakers can be chic when paired with a jacket or a long cardigan. A bright colored scarf can also give a finished look. So can a statement piece of jewelry. It doesn’t have to be complicated or fussy. So add that extra step in when you go out in your comfy clothes. Who knows when we get back to flying you may wind up in first class!
