Top It Off
A lacy, but comfortable, top elevates any outfit.
A comfortable top can make any outfit look chic and effortless. And there are so many options for you to choose from - just keep some simple rules in mind.
Make sure they are clean and stain free. If you are running out for that gallon of milk after gardening, take off the offending shirt. Put it where you can retrieve it when you return to do more gardening. Then put on one of your inexpensive, but nice looking, black tee shirts for your quick trip. The black tee-shirt looks sophisticated and hides any grime. If you do not like or look good in black, select any other dark colored tee-shirt.
Be sure that the shirt fits. There is nothing worse than being in a tight blouse where your buttons are gaping. It doesn’t look good and it is uncomfortable. That does not mean you should wear a top that is too big for you or a baggy men’s tee-shirt. Select a top that flatters your figure and gives you some ease across the chest. Make sure the sleeves and underarms are not too tight. Try the shirt on and move your arms about to be sure it does not inhibit any of your movements.
Don’t be obsessed with the size. Oftentimes women will refuse to buy a bigger shirt size if it is not their traditional size. So if you normally wear a size 10, you will only buy a size 10. A bigger size puts you in a depressed mood. What you should know by now is that all manufacturers’ sizing is different. There can even be variations in sizes within the same line. When you try on the 10 and the sleeves are too tight, go back to the rack and take another the size 10 into the dressing room. If that is still tight and you love the top, try it in the bigger size to see if it fits better. The bigger size can be altered to ensure a perfect fit. But if you find the larger size is too big everywhere but the sleeves, for comfort’s sake, move onto a different style. If the size issues still bothers you, there is a simple way to fix it – cut out the tag.
Don’t worry about the size. Just make sure it compliments your figure.
One article of clothing that will help you achieve that chic looking top is the right bra. Many of us are wearing the same bra from ten years ago.
Unfortunately your body may have changed a bit. You may have gained or lost weight, but continue to wear the same bra. Maybe you hate to spend money on underwear and just keep wearing the same bra until the closure just pulls apart. Years of washing your bras in the washing machine have caused all the underwires to poke out and stab you when you move the wrong way. Or you just love that style and they discontinued it years ago. If any of this sounds familiar, it is time to get yourself over to one of those outlet or department stores and be measured for the correct fitting bra. It will make a huge difference in how you look and more importantly how you feel. You may complain that the top is uncomfortable when it is really the bra underneath it.
