The Long and Short of It

Did you ever wonder why a pair of jeans and a tee shirt can look so different on two people the exact same height and weight?

Have you ever tried on a shirt and the length just makes you look “stumpy”? While the same style but longer makes you look lean?

You may have heard of the terms long and short waisted. Over the years I have learned that this really does make a difference in how your clothes fit. Especially as we get a little older.

So let’s take the time to determine which one you are.  With a tape ruler, measure the distance between your armpit and your waist.  Then measure the distance between your waist and the bottom of your rear end. Which number is bigger? The bigger number identifies if you are short or long waisted.

I am short waisted.  If I wear a tucked in shirt or a wide belt, I look extremely out of proportion. For me it is best if my tee-shirts hit around my hips.  It makes it easy to layer and gives me the illusion of a longer torso.

The layer necklaces gives a longer look to the short waisted.

Take some time to determine which one you are and then experiment. You can really see the difference when you try on shirts of different lengths or when you place a belt on a jacket. It will then make it easier for you to select something that makes you look great!
